Puumat and Mets Join Forces to Build the Future of Finnish Baseball

Puumat and Mets aim to strengthen Finnish baseball with two competitive Superbaseball teams and a clear pathway from youth to adult play. Their Letter of Intent begins preparations for cooperation in 2027, preserving the Mets name and team identity while bringing the clubs’ expertise together.

Baseball-Puumat ry and Helsinki Mets ry have signed a Letter of Intent to deepen their cooperation. The goal is for Mets' baseball operations to continue in the 2027 season as part of the Puumat organization, while retaining the Mets name and team identity.

The shared objective is to maintain two strong and competitive teams in the Finnish Superbaseball League and establish a solid player development pathway from youth to adult baseball. By combining coaching expertise, training facilities, and club resources, the two organizations aim to create even better opportunities for player development and the growth of baseball in Finland.

“Mets has a long history and a great team spirit, both of which we want to build on in the future. Cooperation with Puumat opens up new opportunities for our players and strengthens our day-to-day team operations. We look forward to what lies ahead,” says Riku Katajmäki, Chairman of Helsinki Mets.

“We greatly value the history of Mets and the work that has been done within the club. We share a passion for baseball and a commitment to developing the sport over the long term. Together, we can offer even more players a place to grow, compete, and enjoy baseball,” says Terho Tiilikainen, Chairman of Baseball-Puumat ry.

The Letter of Intent marks the beginning of a joint planning process to define team operations, resource sharing, and practical arrangements in greater detail. The aim is to finalize the preparations and practical arrangements in early 2027.
