Puumat Baseball Club celebrated the end of the 2026 season on Friday, October 30, at Biitsi Arena in Helsinki. The evening brought together players from the club's various teams to celebrate a successful season, recognize outstanding players, and enjoy time together. At the same time, the club turned its attention toward the upcoming 2027 season.
Historic Championship Crowns an Outstanding Season
The biggest achievement of the season was Puumat's Finnish Championship title in Superbaseball, ending a 27-year wait for the club. Puumat also enjoyed success on the international stage, securing two victories at the Federation Cup in Hungary.
The club's other teams also delivered impressive performances. The Devils claimed silver in the Fat Lizard League, while the Hawks recorded four victories in their debut season in the competition. In women's softball, Sandstorm took part in a historic season as an official softball league returned to Finland.
Another particularly encouraging development was the continued growth of the Puumat Cubs junior program. Launched in 2025, the program has introduced more children to baseball and laid a strong foundation for the club's future.
The Puumat Family Is Growing – Mets Joins the Partnership
The celebration also provided an opportunity to look ahead to the club's future. One of the most significant developments is the letter of intent signed by Puumat and Helsinki Mets to deepen their cooperation.
The goal is for Mets' baseball operations to continue in the 2027 season as part of the Puumat organization, while retaining their own name and team identity. The partnership will strengthen the club's player development pathway and create more diverse training and playing opportunities for players at different levels.
In the future, the Puumat family will include two Superbaseball teams, Puumat and Mets; two Fat Lizard League teams, Hawks and Devils; the women's softball team Sandstorm; and the junior baseball team Puumat Cubs.
The shared ambition is to build an even stronger baseball and softball organization and contribute to the growth of both sports in Finland.
Winter Training Begins with Improved Facilities
Although the competitive season has ended, preparations for 2027 are already underway. The most significant improvement to the winter training program is the introduction of Kerava-Sipoo Arena, which offers excellent facilities for batting, fielding, and game practice.
Throughout the winter, training sessions will take place in Kerava, Pallomylly, and Urhea. In November and December, the focus will be on fundamentals. Live batting practice will begin in January, followed by winter league practice games starting in February.
The club will also organize open tryout sessions for new players. The goal is to recruit 10–15 new players to strengthen the rosters of Puumat, Mets, Hawks, and Devils.
