Technique

Hitting

Hitting a ball thrown hard at you is difficult, but also quite fun. Some say it is the most difficult thing to do in sports. Maybe the challenge makes hitting more interesting. A baseball bat is somewhat heavy, and a strong swing doesn’t happen by itself. In addition to strength, a lot of explosiveness and practiced skill is required to swing smoothly. A good swing is a combination of fluidity and balance.

Fielding

A competitive fielder is someone who can read the incoming ball well and move to it with mobility and speed, while considering the optimal catching and throwing technique regarding the situation. To be a good fielder, like in many other things in life, you dont necessarily have to look good to do it well, it is more important to be functional and consistent.

Fielding in baseball is taught with slightly different techniques for different defensive positions, some of these below.

Pitching

Pitching is one of the more difficult things to do in sports. Just a degree of difference from your arm is enough to change a perfectly executed strike to a badly missed ball. The pitchers movement itself is quite complex; you have to tap into strength, balance, mobility and rhythm and do it with great consistency. Every pitcher has their own optimized movement positions and sequence learned by trying to throw better over and over again. Another character of a pitcher is their selection of pitches, which should mesh well with their optimal technique. In addition to pure velocity and accuracy, things like tunneling, change of planes and speeds, break of the ball can make a pitcher competitive or easy to hit.

Of course, pitching is key to a competitive game of baseball. Pitchers should really use a lot of time to improve their game, and often pitchers train as a somewhat separate part of a baseball team. Some tips to understand better pitching, individual movement dynamics and throwing in general:
