Puumat plays in the Finnish Championship (SM) Superbaseball series. Many of our players played baseball in their home countries as youths and continued their hobby after moving to Finland. Additionally, our team includes former Finnish pesäpallo players and those who learned baseball in Finland. The Championship season is played as a multi-round league format, in which the team plays 12-16 games in the regular season. The regular season begins in May and continues into August. The playoffs are played in early September, deciding the championship.

Puumat’s division team, the Helsinki Devils, plays at a lower league level, the Fat Lizard League. Eight teams played in the league in 2025. The Devils and Puumat predominantly train together. The Devils team is suitable for beginners and those who want to continue playing at an older age.

In the sport, young prospects in particular have good opportunities to develop to play at the national team level and also potentially find playing spots abroad, or travel with the club team to the Federation Cup qualifiers. For example, with a background in the Pesäpallo Suomi-sarja, one can rise to the league’s elite if there is enough enthusiasm for training. Baseball can offer enthusiasts a versatile development path at an international level, which can even lead to a professional career.
